Informatica and Oracle collaborate

Informatica Corporation will deliver solutions with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliances based on Informatica Data Archive Smart Partitioning. The combined solution provides a reference architecture designed to significantly improve data management and performance, while lowering total cost of ownership when managing large volumes of data.

“Informatica is pleased to work with Oracle in optimizing data management with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliances,” said Amit Walia, senior vice president and general manager, ILM Business Unit, Informatica. “The combined solution provides customers with a template and synergistic technologies to cost-effectively manage massive data growth while supporting virtually seamless access to data by business users and consistent performance.”

Scott Tracy, vice president, Storage Software, Oracle, said, “The Informatica Data Archive and Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance solution enables customers to deploy automated, intelligent storage tiering, which segments data sets for archival on the ZFS Storage Appliance. This architecture can simplify data management tasks for application DBAs and delivers business benefits, including storage cost savings, streamlined IT operations and increased ROI.”

According to a July 24, 2013, Gartner report, Hype Cycle for Storage Technologies, “Creating an archive of less frequently accessed data and reducing the size of the active application database (and all related copies of that database) improves application performance and recoverability, and lowers storage costs. Storage savings result from putting older data on lower-cost storage, as well as reducing the size and number of the copies of the active data produced.”

Informatica Data Archive Smart Partitioning enables organizations to automate complex partitioning and archiving policies for master, reference and transactional data, and then readily access the data based on roles and responsibilities when needed. Within this architecture, Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance provides fast and transparent access to archived data, helping customers ensure a proper balance of cost, performance and capacity across storage tiers.

The combination of Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance and Informatica Data Archive Smart Partitioning enables customers to:
· Reduce the cost of data by enabling storage tiering and compression of referentially intact data partitions.
· Improve application performance by up to 6x by automatically optimizing datasets for user requests.
· Virtually eliminate complex archiving strategies and provide full and rapid access to archived data.
The complementary Oracle and Informatica technologies provide customers with a flexible, quickly implemented and easily administered data management solution.
