Interoute launches sixth European Virtual Data Centre in Milan

Europe’s largest cloud services platform adds new IaaS location to meet customer demand.

Interoute has opened a new Virtual Data Centre (VDC) zone in Milan. Built into the core of its pan-European network, Interoute VDC enables organizations to deploy virtual computing and storage infrastructure for enterprise applications in minutes. Users can select any of six Interoute VDC zones in Amsterdam, Berlin, Geneva, London, Paris and now Milan to host their data. Internet data transfer data between VDC zones is free thanks to the integration of Interoute’s advanced network.

Estimated at US$1.35 billion in 2013, the European Infrastructure-as-a-Service (or Cloud Computing) market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 66% between 2012 and 2018 (Frost & Sullivan). The Interoute VDC zone in Milan will help support innovative companies searching for agile, flexible computing and the ability to quickly reach new markets across Europe in a cost effective way.

The integration of the Interoute Milan VDC with Interoute’s network and data centres creates a fully Networked Cloud which is faster, more robust and better performing than traditional cloud computing services. This integration also enables Interoute to offer its customers both public, private and hybrid cloud computing environments from its single pan European cloud platform.

Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst, Shuba Ramkumar, commented: “Interoute’s public and private cloud offering, delivered via its cloud services platform, is unmatched by any of its competitors in the European market. Its successful consolidation of a growing customer base is a result of considerable network and platform strength delivered by its pan-European presence. The company’s comprehensive cloud offering has established it as a leader in what is a rapidly growing market for cloud solutions.”

Matthew Finnie, CTO of Interoute, commented: “The next evolution of the cloud is integration with the network. Interoute VDC gives companies the flexibility of public cloud computing, the security and reliability of a private cloud and the geographic scale and distribution provided by Europe’s largest network.”

In addition to this capability users have total control over where their data and applications reside within the Interoute VDC platform, down to the individual data centre zones. This helps ensure companies can comply fully with European data legislation and maintain control of their valuable data assets.
