Unisys part of consortium selected as IT provider for 2014 World Cup in Brazil

As a member of the Brazil Seguro Consortium, Unisys will provide IT infrastructure solutions for 12 Brazilian cities that will host the popular sports event.

Unisys Brazil has been selected as a member of a consortium to provide mission-critical infrastructure solutions for the 12 Brazilian cities that will host the 2014 World Cup.

Unisys along with Agora Telecom, Comtex and Módulo are members of Brazil Seguro Consortium, which received the contract from the Extraordinary Security Department for Large scale Events (SESGE), part of the Brazilian Ministry of Justice.

Signed in the third quarter of 2013, the agreement has a total estimated value to the consortium of US$110 million (BRL$244 million). For its role in the project, Unisys will provide all infrastructure components to ensure the performance and availability of mission-critical applications running at the data centers.

"We are thrilled to be part of this project which is of great importance for Brazil’s public safety, both during and after the event, and will be watched by sports fans around the globe,” said Agostinho Rocha, Vice President, Technology Consulting & Integration Solutions, Latin America, and Managing Director, Unisys Brazil. “We look forward to applying state-of-the-art technologies to make this event a great success and showcasing Brazil to the world.”

The consortium will be responsible for providing IT systems, services and infrastructure for 13 integrated command and control centers (CICCs) that will be set up in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador. The federal capital, Brasília, will have an additional data center that will serve as a backup.

As part of the public security architecture being developed for the event, the CICCs will manage and monitor communications among public security agencies in Brazil, such as the military, civil and federal police departments, the fire brigade and civil defense. Consortium members will also be responsible for event-related applications, information processing, storage, and desktop updates.
