SAP system refresh for kitchenware manufacturer

Wharfedale Technologies, Inc. announces the successful deployment of SAP System Refresh solution for a giant kitchenware manufacturer firm. The customer had faced challenges to meet their business requirements due to the lack of a defined system refresh procedure for the different components in their SAP landscape. This had hindered them from making system copies for quality assurance purpose. Furthermore, the existing manual process that was followed occasionally, was very time consuming and certain critical post processing steps were also not being executed. The customer requested WFT to design and implement the system refresh process for their SAP test (QA) environment. The customer’s goal was to implement an SAP System Copy solution for their ECC, BW, CRM and PI SAP components. The SAP landscape resided on Sun hardware in a Solaris/Oracle environment and EMC VMAX as the backend storage array.

To meet the customer’s System Refresh requirements, WFT designed a solution to address all the requirements by utilizing their SAP infrastructure and SAP BASIS expertise to refresh the SAP test landscape from SAP production landscape. From the infrastructure perspective, the layout of the file systems and configuration of disk groups were updated to align with the storage cloning requirements. The procedure also involved presenting cloned storage to the appropriate Solaris zones and renaming the system identifier of the Oracle database for each SAP component. Furthermore, the storage cloning was implemented in such a way that it enabled Federated single point-in-time copy for all SAP components in the landscape.
From a SAP BASIS perspective, the procedure involved executing multiple pre-processing and post-processing transactions that are specific to each SAP component to get the target landscape up and running, with the most up-to-date data from production landscape. In short, the solution incorporated efficient methodology to refresh SAP database and perform SAP post processing.

The solution provided by WFT proved to be a reliable and a flexible solution to perform SAP system refresh in a Solaris zones and Oracle environment. Furthermore, the solution also provides a repeatable process to perform system refresh for any SAP component irrespective of the underlying size of the database.
