NCCD uses research and analytics to improve outcomes for people in juvenile, adult justice, child welfare, and other human service systems. Highly-focused current and customised interactive reports are some of the most essential tools provided by NCCD to its clients, yet the reporting cycle had become unwieldy, with cycle times of more than 20 hours to produce key reports. NCCD originally considered expanding its existing storage with more spinning disk, but decided to look at an all-flash array. To improve performance, NCCD chose the latest release of Oracle RAC to build and tune its application for flash, leveraging the latest version of Oracle ASM, but needed storage to support the Oracle RAC configuration.
To better analyse the data for NCCD’s reporting the organisation chose a Violin 6000 Series Flash Memory Array to improve the performance of the Oracle database. NCCD worked closely with Violin to build, configure and tune the environment for maximum performance and throughput. The result was a solution that produced the reports in about three hours, an 85 percent improvement in report turnaround times, and a reduction of three to two Oracle RAC nodes.
