The number of employees using their own devices at work is on the rise. Gartner® predicts this trend will keep increasing, so much so that 38 percent of companies are expected to stop providing corporate devices to workers by the end of 2016. This growth in personal devices is creating a challenge for enterprise IT departments as they struggle to control the devices accessing information, and from where they are located. Most importantly they need to remain assured that sensitive files will not be exposed to leaks or theft.
Both of the solutions, launched today from Acronis, address these issues. mobilEcho 5.0 encrypts all of the files on mobile devices, sets expiration dates for file access and logs users’ activity. Likewise, enterprises can use activEcho 3.0 to enhance the control on their security settings and privileges, so specific employees or groups have access and can share all content or a single file.
"The National Institute of Health (NIH) is a publicly funded medical research organisation that needs to support collaboration among researchers both between the many institutes and centres, as well as with those who work at research centres outside the NIH," said J David Hester, PhD, Solutions Architect at LCG Systems, who works with multiple NIH centres and institutes on data security. "mobilEcho and activEcho not only give the most secure and audit-capable solution that meets the NIH’s Federal and internal security requirements, it is also one that is so simple, the doctors and other users require no training. It makes secure bring your own device a reality for the NIH."
Consumer solutions don’t deliver the required level of control and security, and mobile device management (MDM) solutions only provide control over the device and applications, not the files. Additionally, VPN solutions neither allow users to work offline nor effectively and securely share files with partners.
Acronis mobilEcho and activEcho are deployed on-premise giving IT departments complete control. The two products also go beyond the limitations of MDM solutions and grant secure access to files from mobile devices. The Acronis Policy Engine itself gives the flexibility to implement security and management policies appropriate to the needs of enterprise.
“The workplace has fundamentally changed, and employees are working from home, on the road, and everywhere else,” said Anders Lofgren, VP of product management at Acronis. “Embracing these trends, IT professionals can use mobilEcho 5.0 and activEcho 3.0 to enable their colleagues to work from any device by providing secure access, sharing and syncing of files and data, under a new and easy-to-use Acronis Policy Engine. With these new products, it’s even easier for IT professionals to help their employees stay productive, without losing the security and control that enterprise requires.”
