The art of the Cloud

Serpentine Galleries has chosen HP Public Cloud to enable digital participation in its renowned ‘89plus Marathon’ for the first time.

Serpentine Galleries' 89plus Marathon is curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Simon Castets and Jochen Volz. The 89plus Marathon brings together emerging practitioners, born in or after 1989, together with influential thinkers of all generations, during a 48 hour event of speeches, live performances and live produced works. The discourse is focused on the impact networked society and the evolving global economy is having on today’s generation.

“Serpentine Galleries is connecting with audiences in new ways, bringing them into a closer relationship with the art,” said Julia Peyton-Jones, Director, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-Director, Serpentine Galleries. “HP is the perfect cloud guide as we embark on a journey to expand The Serpentine Galleries’ digital offerings.”

The Serpentine 89plus Marathon’s digital offering, ‘89plus Clubhouse,’ will be hosted on HP’s Public Cloud, built on OpenStack technology. Specifically, people from around the world will be able to participate in the event through live Tweets, uploading photos and responding to ideas in real-time. The goal is to extend the conversation beyond the physical one, drawing together conversations across social networks in one online hub.
By using HP Public Cloud, Serpentine Galleries can focus on creating an innovative experience for their audience while HP handles all the storage and compute needs. They will have access to a pool of resources which can be utilized on an as-needed basis such as image management and messaging.

“Serpentine Galleries and HP are enabling diverse opinions to be captured and heard,” said Xavier Poisson, Vice President of Cloud Computing, HP Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The HP and Serpentine Galleries collaboration is yet another example that cloud usage is not bound by industry or company size. HP’s Public Cloud portfolio is helping the gallery enhance access to artists, galleries and content.”

Serpentine Galleries is expanding, not only physically but digitally, using HP Public Cloud. Serpentine Galleries’ 89plus Marathon will be the first milestone in the Gallery’s cloud journey, providing an additional perspective for the audience. As the collaboration between HP and Serpentine Galleries evolves, the aim is to provide audiences with enhanced access to artists, galleries and content.
