Huawei launches "Fusion" Strategy at Huawei Cloud Congress 2013

Huawei has kicked off the Huawei Cloud Congress 2013 (HCC 2013) at the Shanghai Expo Center. Building on its proactive innovation in the IT infrastructure field in collaboration with industry partners such as Intel, SAP and Seagate, Huawei officially launched its "Fusion" strategy for the information technology (IT) area at this year’s HCC. Themed "Make IT Simple, Make Business Agile", the two-day event attracts over 10,000 participants, including industry experts, partners, customers, media and analysts.

Since the first HCC held in 2010, Huawei has worked closely with global partners to promote the deployment and application of cloud technologies around the world.


"IT industry is an open industry and Huawei has a very clear strategic roadmap. We will focus on developing and offering future-oriented cloud data center solutions and products, including servers, storage, data center networks, cloud operating systems as well as cloud management platforms," said Mr. Eric Xu, Deputy Chairman of Huawei. The highlight of this year’s HCC is the official launch of Huawei’s "Fusion" strategy, which combines an array of IT technologies, including computing, storage, virtualization and data center technologies, to lay the foundation for an open platform that enables third-party system integration, simple deployment, simple management and simple operation and maintenance of enterprise IT infrastructures. At the event, Huawei will unveil and showcase a series of IT products and solutions specifically developed to support the "Fusion" strategy, including the world’s first "converged data plane" storage philosophy, the world’s first fully-distributed cloud operating system FusionSphere 3.0, and the high-performance converged all-in-one appliance FusionCube 2.0.


Simple Deployment, Reducing New Business Launch Time
This is an era of rapid change. Only with agile responses will enterprises be able to win in today’s competitive business climate. One of the many benefits of Huawei’s "Fusion" strategy is to help enterprises simplify IT deployment and reduce business launch time. "Fusion" offers:
· The first "converged data plane" storage philosophy – Based on a unified and extremly- virtualized engine -- the XVE platform -- Huawei is able to develop an integrated storage architecture, the "converged data plane", to enable highly efficient data flow across multiple equipment and location throughout a full lifecycle, allowing customers to construct a data storage pool that features flexible expansion, on-demand deployment and global cooperation.
· The first high-end all-flash enterprise storage system OceanStor 18800F – As the industry’s first flash-based enterprise storage product, OceanStor 18800F features million-level IOPS that is five times the industry standard, 10% microsecond latency compared to the industry average, a disk failure rate as low as zero, as well as shockproof and corrosion-proof capabilities for low deployment barrier.
· Highest performing converged all-in-one appliance FusionCube 2.0 – FusionCube 2.0 is the industry’s first high-performance cloud computing infrastructure platform to integrate computing, networking, storage and management functions. The FusionCube 2.0 offers the highest backbone switching capacity at 15.6Tbps. Leveraging an innovative distributed storage technology, FusionCube 2.0 is committed to eliminating IO performance bottlenecks to allow an over 10 times increase in data throughput. It is currently one of the best platforms to replace the Unix server.
· The only data center network solution based on software-defined network (SDN) CloudFabric 2.0 – A network solution based Huawei’s distributed data center architecture (DC2), which adopts SDN and allows for simpler deployment and shorter launch time for new businesses. The solution is the first in the industry to cover networks within and between data centers, achieving end-to-end service level agreement (SLA) guarantees. In addition, CloudFabric 2.0 is also the only solution to integrate software and hardware for high performance networks with VxLAN forwarding capabilities, which is 96 times higher than the industry average.


Efficient O&M, Lower TCO
With scarce energy and space resources, enterprises are focusing more on the costs of IT operations and maintenance (O&M). The second of the many benefits of Huawei’s "Fusion" strategy is to help enterprises streamline O&M and to reduce TCO. "Fusion" offers:
· The first fully-distributed high-performance cloud operating system FusionSphere 3.0 – An efficient cloud operating system based on the open architecture of OpenStack, FusionSphere 3.0 is able to achieve the virtualization of data centers through horizontal integration, realizing ICT convergence in cloud computing. Ranked first in the SPECvirt performance evaluation of virtualization benchmark, the FusionSphere 3.0 operating system offers industry-leading virtualization, which enables triple network I/O performance enhancement supported by Huawei’s hardware.
· Ultra High density Cabinet Server X8000 – Adopting DH628 V2 storage nodes, the X8000 server provides the highest density and storage capacity in the industry. Featuring a modular design, the server supports 40 full-width nodes in a single 44U cabinet and 80 Intel Xeon E5-2400 series processors, offering up to 2-petabyte storage capacity. Compared to the traditional 2U storage servers with single cabinet deployment of 10 units, the X8000 storage server allows over 75% space saving and 15% energy saving.


Simplified Management and Improved Efficiency for Business Value
Today, vast amounts of data are generated every day. Unlocking the business potential of big data has become a key area of focus and investment for enterprises. The third of the many benefits of Huawei’s "Fusion" strategy is helping enterprises to simplify management and thus improve business efficiency and create value. "Fusion" offers:
· The first long distance disaster-proof enterprise big data analysis platform FusionInsight – Offering disaster-proof capabilities covering a distance of over 1,000 kilometers. It helps enterprises to quickly establish large-scale data processing systems and enables them to analyze large amounts of internal and external real-time and non real-time data, unlocking new value and business potential.
· The only converged big data infrastructure platform in the industry integrating storage, filing and analysis – Reduces data movement and doubles data storage efficiency. Unified data management improves efficiency.
· The first data center management solution in the industry to support transportation of resources among 20 data centers ManageOne 2.0 – The first management solution in industry to achieve unified management of L1 infrastructure and L2 architecture, realizing coordinated management of resources across up to 20 data centers, as well as of cloud and physical resources. The ManageOne 2.0 open platform also supports various system components offered by mainstream vendors in the industry and full life-cycle business management that improves data center deployment and management efficiency, eliminating the lag time taken for data center resource establishment and meeting fast business deployment requirements.


Customer-centric Approach
Delivering on our commitment to customer-centricity, Huawei has been striving to better understand customers’ needs, innovate hand-in-hand with customers, ultimately helping customers realize business success. Building on the cloud platform independently developed by Huawei, and consolidating software development resources in the industry, Huawei successfully helped Shanghai Tower, a new landmark of the city, deploy China’s first Building Information Modeling (BIM) Cloud for engineering construction. BIM Clouds can enable engineering construction companies to rent computing infrastructure, software and system resources on the Internet according to their own needs, substantially reducing the costs for hardware deployment and system maintenance. During HCC 2013, a launch ceremony was hosted by Huawei in conjunction with the Shanghai Tower to unveil the BIM cloud.


By offering competitive products and solutions based on its customer-centric approach to innovation, Huawei has achieved a comprehensive breakthrough in the IT market, gaining recognition from industry customers across government, transportation, energy and power, finance and large enterprise sectors. As of August 2013, Huawei has successfully constructed 330 data centers worldwide, including 70 cloud data centers, and enabled over 260 cloud computing customers around the world to explore the business value of cloud technology with Huawei. In addition, Huawei deployed the world’s largest and most complicated desktop cloud system, which supports 100,000 users on simultaneous business operations within the company. Meanwhile, Huawei also recorded remarkable progress in the storage and server markets, becoming the first Chinese vendor to be included in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Blade Servers, as well as its list of global mainstream storage vendors. In the first quarter of 2013, the shipments of Huawei’s storage solutions ranked number one in the China market, while the shipment volume and capacity both ranked number eight globally. The shipment of Huawei servers was ranked number three in China.
