Powwownow calls TelecityGroup for conferencing growth

Premium TelecityGroup facility in London at the heart of new data centre infrastructure to meet business continuity and growth requirements.

Powwownow, Europe's fastest growing free conference call provider, has announced the completion of a data centre infrastructure refresh project to ensure ongoing business continuity across its international operations. The company has chosen TelecityGroup, Europe’s leading provider of premium carrier-neutral data centres, to provide the resilient, redundant and scalable underlying infrastructure required to support its expanding product set of voice and video conferencing from centralised facilities in London.

Powwownow, founded in 2004, offers its customers low-cost conference calling facilities with the ethos of “no booking, no billing, no fuss”. It now operates in 15 countries including the US, UK, and other major European markets and offers a rapidly expanding product set, including Powwownow Engage, its new collaboration service. Due to the company’s reliance on voice and international connectivity, its IT infrastructure has always been central to the success of its ongoing business model.

To support ongoing growth and increasing bandwidth requirements, Powwownow has completed a migration to a new fully redundant IT set-up which incorporates its head office in Richmond and two data centres in London, including one of TelecityGroup’s state-of-the-art facilities. This set-up will enable Powwownow to achieve greater geographical diversity in its IT infrastructure to support its business continuity planning, provide closer proximity to key BT exchanges, and access to the rich connectivity present in TelecityGroup’s carrier-neutral environment.

Tim Davies, Operations Manager, Powwownow, comments: “The convenience with which we provide our customers’ voice and video calling facilities has contributed to the extremely fast growth for the company. As a business, we enjoyed 20 per cent year-on-year growth in 2012, and broke the barrier of consecutive ‘million minute days’ where our users spent over a million minutes using our conference calling service in a day. However, at the same time this has put more pressure on our underlying IT infrastructure to sustain and support our business expansion plans – particularly as we look to push more into Europe. The scalability and power density available in TelecityGroup is of great reassurance to us – it means we know our growth strategy can be supported in the coming years and we know our back-end will continue to be the lynchpin of our customer proposition.”

Rob Coupland, Managing Director, UK, TelecityGroup commented: “The enterprise working environment has changed significantly in recent years. Due to the onset of flexible and easy-to-use consumer technology, employees now expect the same of enterprise working tools. Powwownow has capitalised on this opportunity through the provision of hassle-free conference and video calling, and this business model is reliant on being able to provide a resilient and always-available service. We’re delighted that Powwownow has recognised how the quality of our data centre infrastructure and customer service expertise can help it achieve its business goals in the coming years.”
