Data centre and internet infrastructure specialist Next Connex has chosen the Huawei Enterprise OSN 1800V Optical platform to run its new UK-wide fibre network.
Next Connex, working with industry partner Magdalene, is creating a network that will soon provide 4 Tbit/s of connectivity day one with the ability to grow to 8 Tbit/s and beyond between its major data centres in Southern England. This will be extended across the UK to Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds during 2014.
The flexible scalability and low running costs offered by the Huawei solution, will allow Next Connex to give its UK data centre customers resilient and competitively priced fibre connections, at speeds ranging from 100 mbit/s to 100 Gbit/s. The business model will give customers a resilient and reliable choice in connecting data centres. Target customers will include wholesale services to other carriers, large data and IT companies, and private businesses that want reasonably priced backhaul.
Mark Fitchew, CEO of Next Connex said: “Huawei is a global leader in so many of today’s networking technologies, and the most innovative company in the switched Optical Transport Network (OTN) market. We choose Huawei because it was the only company with the roadmap in place to enable us to deliver the services our customers want.”
The OptiX OSN 1800 Multi-Service WDM/OTN System combines both OTN and WDM features, allowing users to integrate multiple access transport networks into a single network. It provides an effective solution to the combined problems of cost, redundancy and the ever increasing demand for more bandwidth, traditionally faced by access transport networks.
David Poskett, Vice President Enterprise UK&I, Huawei Enterprise Business Group said: “Huawei is tremendously excited to be supporting Next Connex in its delivery of high speed flexible connectivity to UK data centres. With the explosive growth of data and smart devices enabling a mobile workforce, the potential in this area is almost unbounded. Huawei’s optical platform delivers a trusted market-leading solution, flexible connectivity to meet a range of customer needs and unrivalled innovation with the fastest optical technology to meet data requirements for years to come.”
