Q Biggest influence?

A I realise that this question is asking for a person. However, I would have to say my biggest influence has been my childhood. My family moved to Saudi Arabia when I was less than a year old and we continued to move from country to country every three to four years. Being exposed to so many cultures and ever changing situations has really helped me to develop a sense of self and situational awareness.

Q Most valuable lesson learnt?

A Always set your own standards.

Q One company to watch (other than your own)?

A I keep coming across Dyn, the US based worldwide Internet Infrastructure as a Service provider. They are doing some pretty cool stuff with managed DNS and traffic management for the likes of Twitter, Tumblr and Netflix. They are growing like crazy. They really seem to get digital culture and the need to be more than just a company selling a service.

Q Going out or staying in?

A I am a fan of hibernation not aestivation.

Q Staycation or exotic location?

A The world is always getting smaller so it would be a poor effort not to get out there and see as much of it as possible. But, equally living in London you cannot help to be a tourist most days.

Q A book, a movie or the TV?

A As Claranet are a managed hosting provider to the likes of Channel 5 and Warner Bros my obvious answer is anything with a screen.

Q In charge for the day, what world problem would you address?

A How do you begin to answer this question without sounding like a 1980s Miss World contestant? I am not sure I want to tackle topics such as world hunger or genocide within 100 words. So, instead I would simply encourage people to be more aware of the world around them in their own day to day lives and for us all to actively work towards making the world a better place.

Q Shirt and tie or dress down?

A I have no preference. People should be able to dress however they feel comfortable, that includes while they are in the workplace.

Q Your three desert island music choices?

A These aren’t my favourite songs; they are ones I wouldn’t get bored of:
“Walk This Way” – Aerosmith / Run–D.M.C.
“Whole Lotta Love” – Led Zeppelin
“No Way” – “The Naked And Famous”

Q Guess who’s coming to dinner – your five guests, (real or fictional characters)?
Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy
Will Ferrell as Brennan Huff
Will Ferrell as Chazz Reinhold
Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby
Will Ferrell as Chazz Michael Michaels

Q When it comes to energy resources (for data centres/IT) is the glass half-empty or half-full?

A Having grown up as an expat within communities largely dominated by the oil majors I would have to say half-full. From an environmental perspective I would have to say that the IT industry is increasingly aware of our social responsibility towards reduced energy consumption and alternative fuels.

Q Pet hates?

A The acceptance of mediocrity.

Q Where does the time machine take you and why?

A I would have to look to one of the defining moments in history the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. It would have been a privilege to see Jesse Owens win his four gold medals and undermine Hitler’s regime.

Q Bring Your Own Device or Bring Your Own Disaster (waiting to happen at some point in the future)?

A Depends on how you do it. Give us a call… Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
