Pulsant announces new Chief Operating Officer

Pulsant, the cloud, colocation and connectivity expert, has appointed Nigel Shaw as Chief Operating Officer.

Reporting directly to CEO, Mark Howling, Shaw will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of Pulsant’s services, the reliable operation of its solutions and the development of its services platform. 2013 is the first financial year the Pulsant brand has operated as a single entity following the integration of the four organisations from which it was created: Scolocate; Lumison; Dedipower; and Bluesquare. The company delivered growth of over 50 per cent in 2012 compared to 2011.

Shaw moves to Pulsant from Hewlett-Packard, where he held various leadership roles and was most recently managing director and vice president of HP Defence UK. Prior to HP he worked for a number of large IT and network service providers, as well as several smaller Internet Service Providers. He has a track record in delivering high quality services in complex technical environments, in a repeatable and scalable manner. He is also very experienced at managing large organisations over multiple sites, delivering on demanding commitments and driving innovation.

Shaw replaces Aydin Kurt-Elli, who founded Lumison as an Internet Service Provider in 1995 and was its CEO until it was acquired by Pulsant in October 2010, when he became COO of the new company. Kurt-Elli remains at Pulsant as a non-executive director.

Howling said: “Nigel brings a wealth of experience and capabilities to the role of COO and understands how to take best practice from some of the world’s largest technology organisations and implement it in the way that is most appropriate for Pulsant and its customers. When looking for his next challenge, Nigel chose Pulsant specifically because of its reputation in the market, its rapidly evolving services portfolio and its growing customer base.

“I am very grateful to Aydin for the work he has done to ensure the effective integration of the four businesses, and I am delighted that he will continue to be involved with Pulsant as a non-executive director.”
