6DG deploys IL2 services for over 30 local authorities

Gate to rack control cited as crucial to the deal.

Six Degrees Group (6DG) has delivered an IL2 certified platform to provide and manage secure cloud infrastructure for over 30 UK local authorities, amounting to nearly 10% of all councils nationally. The platform is used to provide online public services for councils and other public sector departments; details remain confidential for security reasons. The IL2 cloud computing platform was developed in conjunction with one of the UK¹s largest IT outsourcers and public sector specialists.

The complex IL2 certification is regarded throughout the IT industry as a benchmark for security best practice. Rather than being a general grading that providers can reach, solutions must be assessed on an individual project basis. The certification for the local authority contracts therefore encompass the specific team, systems of management, processes and mechanisms at 6DG that are used to keep these particular customers¹ data secure to IL2 standard. The company is currently working on IL3 certified environments and expects to announce its first live platforms soon.

A fundamental part of the IL2 solution delivered by 6DG is its proprietary Tier 4 data centre facilities, which offer maximum security and award winning technologies. Utilising its geographically diverse data centres in Birmingham and Central London, to house the specifically hardened cloud-hosting infrastructure, 6DG offers customers the resilience of a dual site solution. The company controls and owns these facilities from gate-to-rack giving public sector bodies the peace of mind that a UK-based business is managing data sovereignty and data security from end-to-end.

Campbell Williams, group strategy and marketing director, Six Degrees Group said: "Our ability to demonstrate gate to rack control means this particular contract, and new IL2 and future IL3 customers, can know who is handling their data, and crucially when and where this is happening. Our team of experts are also security cleared for this deal so we have had to prove our suitability and expertise at every level.
All of our HMG certified secure platforms can be sourced via G-Cloud."
