TwinStrata has unveiled the latest release of its CloudArray® software, which streamlines management, increases control and reduces the need for separate backup software or disaster recovery strategies. TwinStrata CloudArray 4.5 includes a new, on-demand disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) offering for VMware users, announced separately today (See related announcement “TwinStrata Introduces On-Demand Disaster Recovery as a Service for VMware Users”).

Capacity-Optimized Data Protection without Backup
CloudArray 4.5 introduces a new, powerful snapshot scheduler that can eliminate the need for separate backup software. The new feature enables users to easily create and maintain a recurring schedule (or schedules) of snapshots by volume with integrated, age-based retention policies. The highly space-efficient snapshots deliver a 20x capacity savings over traditional full backups, thereby reducing the amount of cloud storage required to meet backup retention policies.

Greater Control, Flexibility and Usability
As organizations increase their use of the cloud, many IT departments struggle to manage the impact of cloud-based services and storage on network bandwidth. TwinStrata has released a more powerful and intuitive means of controlling when and how much bandwidth CloudArray uses to connect to cloud storage. Through a simple, graphical interface, organizations can create recurring weekly schedules to accommodate high-usage times and days, fine-tuning bandwidth usage in 15-minute and one megabit per second increments.

The new release also features the next generation of CloudArray dynamic caching, which adds flexible volume migration and balancing across dynamic cache policies to meet performance, sizing and tech refresh requirements. TwinStrata CloudArray 4.5 also delivers a streamlined user interface and experience, giving users greater access to actionable information, status and APIs.

"TwinStrata CloudArray has already enabled us to significantly improve our backup and disaster recovery strategy with less effort and lower costs than our previous solution," said Ryan McClain, systems architect, US Legal Support. "This new release will take that a step further - giving us an easy way to gain more precise control over our snapshot schedules, how much bandwidth cloud storage is consuming, and even how quickly we can get up and running in the event of a disaster."

“Whether your goals are to increase storage capacity, improve off-site data protection, implement disaster recovery or all three of the above, TwinStrata CloudArray is the most comprehensive storage solution available today,” said Nicos Vekiarides, CEO of TwinStrata. “TwinStrata has made great strides in delivering enterprise-class functionality at a fraction of the cost typically required of storage solutions. What’s exciting is CloudArray 4.5 enables organizations to enjoy a full business continuity plan without the need for backup software or a dedicated disaster site-- a once unthinkable proposition.”
