Redstation is the first UK customer to sign up for the diverse 100Gbps wavelength service. With more bandwidth Redstation will be able to support its data-hungry customers with greater capacity and differentiate itself from the competition.
Founded in 1998, Redstation owns and operates two data centres in Gosport, Hampshire, and one in Docklands, London. It manages thousands of servers, hosting thousands of critical websites, email accounts and other applications for clients in more than 100 countries. Server virtualisation, cloud computing, big data and the convergence of storage and data networks have resulted in its customers demanding more data to be carried around at faster speeds, meaning that Redstation required more and more network bandwidth to meet demand.
Redstation's Hampshire data centres will be connected up via Virgin Media Business’ 100Gbps high capacity wavelength service. With the extra bandwidth, Redstation will soon be able to offer its customers the ability to transfer data at least twice the speed of a typical point-to-point connection offered by most data centres. The network’s bandwidth also enables Redstation to avoid data bottlenecks when traffic is at its peak, meaning that customers don’t need to worry about downtime or temporarily losing access to their data.
Martin Groom, managing director, at Redstation commented: “Moving an increasing amount of data around at faster speeds is the number one issue affecting data centre operators like us. Our customers are demanding more and more bandwidth all the time and in order to support that and grow our business we needed a solution that met that need and prepared us for the future. Virgin Media Business’ new network will mean that we can offer customers more than enough bandwidth and even have spare capacity to ensure they we can devote time to creating newer services for our customers.”
Martin Groom continued: “Virgin Media Business’ technology allows us to deliver the performance and reliability our customers require, while providing the flexibility to dial capacity up as we need to. We’re also thinking about expanding our service offering and are currently making plans for more sites. The great thing about the network is that it will give us the room we need to grow, without causing us any headaches over restricted bandwidth.”
Jeff Wollen, executive sales director - partner markets and public sector Virgin Media Business said: “Businesses are getting more and more data hungry with every passing day. As they become more reliant on cloud services, and mobile working technology to run their operation they need faster and more reliable data transfer between sites. That’s where our high capacity service offering comes in – it’s helping Redstation to offer its customers all the capacity they need, and more. We’re proud to be supporting the UK’s first roll-out of a 100Gbps data centre network and are confident that more operators will recognise the need for more bandwidth.”
