A Swiss data centre – the only thing more secure than a Swiss Bank?!

Switzerland has had a long standing association with offshore banking and is well known for its stability and excellent banking fraternity. But today, Switzerland has much more to offer. It is quickly becoming one of the most sort-after locations for storing business critical data.

A country shrouded in banking secrecy and deep routed neutrality makes it not only an ideal place to keep your money but also your sensitive business data. There are fewer places in the world more fitting with its financial and political stability.

Benefits you can bank on
Tough bank secrecy laws – based on a deep-seated respect for privacy is one of the fundamental reasons behind the strength of Switzerland`s financial industry. But other factors are at play here with the strength of the work force, the low environmental risk and advantageous tax rates. These make Geneva and Zurich every bit as competitive as they were ten year ago.

These benefits of course have become a precursor for many other industries in the region including hosting and manufacturing. Hosting companies have tirelessly analysed every minute detail of the banking sector to see what it can learn in relation to its business. In truth, you can see many similarities with each enjoying the benefits.

Benefitting from neutrality
The benefits aside, the industry as a whole is currently experiencing huge growth due to the data revolution. Businesses are putting huge emphasis on data these days as access has never been more widely available.

The level of data businesses can put together today is quite staggering but of course storing and accessing this huge volume of data is another challenge.
Much has been written about this change but few locations have been better positioned for it. Located in central Europe, Switzerland has become the perfect location for many businesses to house their data.

From Zurich most cities countries are reachable in just a few hours and Switzerland has become a central hub for businesses.

The famous railways, the incredibly modern airports and high speed connections are just some of the other things that make this region such a hit. Of course, aside from the great infrastructure and financial stability Switzerland is also far less prone to natural disasters than many other regions. You only have to look to the shores of the US to see how much of an impact hurricane Sandy has on businesses hosted data.

High level hosting
Some say “hosting technology here is as reliable as a Swiss watch” and they wouldn’t be far from the truth. Switzerland largely focuses on the higher end of the scale for such services and has seen a recent influx of orders from regions such as the Far East and China.

The growing instability in these regions has been part of the reason behind this growth but also the services on offer.

Many of the larger providers including Artmotion have underground facilities and use the state of the art technology to provide upwards of 99% uptime. This has become a big draw for businesses, who are now able to access their data more quickly and more frequently than ever before.

For the foreseeable future Switzerland will remain a premier destination for business server hosting and few would argue with its impressive security standards, which are now in line with Swiss banks.
